Simon's statement:

Simon Cross is the Green Party's General Election candidate for the Southend East & Rochford constituency.

Simon is a well-known local campaigner, and has represented the Green Party twice in parliamentary elections in the constituency; in 2015 and 2017.

Simon is a passionate representative of the natural environment and is known for his participation in many local campaigns to protect wild areas and natural assets, including recently the Holt Farm Oak tree and the trees threatened by the Shoeburyness Cantel development.

Simon is an advocate and champion of several Mental Health and SEND causes, and is a stalwart campaigner in the long-running Save Southend NHS group which successfully campaigned against the downgrading of Southend Hospital's A&E department.

More recently, Simon has taken a leading role in the efforts to save the Ironworks culture and community centre in Southend High Street.

Simon said;

I’m looking forward to representing my hometown in the general election again.
Southend East & Rochford has faced years of neglect at the hands of an MP more interested in his own political career than championing our community. I want to give the good people of this area the real option to choose a fairer and greener future for their families.
I don’t think it’s radical to say that I want to take care of the most vulnerable in our community, including the ordinary families living in cold, damp homes, many facing no-fault evictions. I think it’s a national shame that Nurses and Doctors in our NHS have to use food banks and that an increasing number of teachers are having to supply their own food, clothes, and materials for children. With a Green government, modern poverty will end.
It looks like I am the only candidate in this election with an evidenced track record of hard work in our community. I have been a no-nonsense community champion for this area for over a decade; my record speaks for itself. Residents know that I am truly local and vocal; I will proudly stand on a promise of standing up for our area. Unlike the other candidates, my priorities are fighting against privatisation, poverty, and inappropriate and unsustainable development. I’m already working hard to improve local services and amenities, and to give residents a voice in important matters that affect them.
