South East Essex Green Party canvasses opinion in Hockley

On Saturday 25th November 2017, the South East Essex Green Party hit the streets of Hockley to survey residents on their local concerns.

A strong team of nine Green Party activists spent the day canvassing locals from an area of central Hockley on their opinions of local issues such as the planned foreclosure of the public toilets, the proposed large-scale Housing development sites located outside the village, and the large volume of traffic.

The residents were incredibly receptive and we gathered a large amount of useful information.

The Green Party are the main opposition to the Conservatives in Hockley, and with a strong support base from residents in the village, Rochford District Council may soon be getting another new Green Councillor.

The event saw volunteers from across the Eastern Region participate in door knocking and surveying of residents in the centre of town.
Amongst the main concerns of the residents were air quality, traffic, and the proposed building developments on Green Belt land.

James Vessey-Miller was one of the volunteers at the event:
The event went fantastically, resulting in a lot of meaningful feedback from a variety of residents. Support for the Green Party in Hockley is really strong, and this event will enable us to directly address the concerns of locals.
