Southend GreenFest 2020

The South East Essex Green Party have today announced a brand new event for 2020, the Southend GreenFest.

The South East Essex Green Party are proud to announce a brand new two-day event for 2020, the Southend GreenFest held at The Railway Hotel Southend on 6 & 7 March 2020.

This groundbreaking fundraising event, which hopes to raise awareness and understanding of Green initiatives, environmentalism, and sustainability will feature a star-studded lineup of guest speakers – including;

  • Amelia Womack, Deputy Leader of the Green Party of England & Wales;
  • Catherine Rowett MEP, the first Green MEP in Eastern Region;
  • Caroline Russell, London Assembly member, and national Green Party Transport spokesperson.
  • Benali Hamdache, Co-Chair of the LGBTIQA+ Greens;
  • Jonathan N Fuller, Extinction Rebellion
  • Richard Longstaff, Senior lecturer of Architectural Technology at ARU.

 


The event also consists of four free daytime workshops for attendees to learn about various Green policies and sustainability initiatives – including;  

Universal Basic Income – with community activist, Sherry Fuller

UBI seeks to give citizens a guaranteed minimum amount of money each month to cover the cost of living.Could this radical idea be the end to poverty and homelessness?  

An Introduction to Permaculture – with Graham Burnett, founder of Spiralseed

Permaculture is a set of design principles centred on whole systems thinking, simulating, or directly utilising the patterns and resilient features observed in natural ecosystems. Graham explains how this approach can be used in a sustainable society.

The Circular Economy – with James Vessey-Miller, Coordinator of the South East Essex Green Party

A circular economy is an alternative to a traditional linear economy (make, use, dispose) in which we keep resources in use for as long as possible, extract the maximum value from them whilst in use, then recover and regenerate products and materials at the end of each service life.

The Green Energy Revolution – with Dr Terence Lewis MSc BSc EMA

Dr. Lewis discusses domestic energy efficiency and fuel poverty, Business energy efficiency including converting costs into profit, and the available routes for funding Green initiatives for personal and business use.


 

The event will also feature a Lightning Talks session on Friday, giving a platform for anyone to speak to the crowd for 10 minutes on a topic of their choice in a TED-talk style format.

And to top it all off, we have two packed evenings of stellar live music from many talented local musicians – including;

The event, which is completely free, will also feature stallholders and local traders selling ethical goods, and the award-winning Vegan kitchen at the Railway Hotel will be open all day for both days.

Local Green Party candidates and activists will also be in attendance to answer any questions you might have and to explain about how the vital work of the local Green Party is helping locally to tackle the climate emergency and challenge systemic inequality.

50 minutes from London by train, the venue is highly accessible via public transport, a short walk from Southend High Street and both Southend Central and Southend Victoria rail stations.

Vegan catering is available to purchase on both days courtesy of the award-winning kitchen at The Railway Hotel.
